In the final service of our “Queering Faith” series, Pastor Juan Pablo invites us to ask “who is our family?” while weighing the realities of this world. Jesus asked this question, and in his response, we see a liberator who frees us from harmful ideas about God; a Jesus who invites us to be our full & authentic selves; and a Jesus who himself had to come out to his close friends & family, and eventually the whole world. Mark’s gospel reveals a Jesus who is in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community. And so, YOU are our family.

This morning, as we celebrate Juneteenth, we read about an Ethiopian eunuch who, although is not given a name in the Bible, is named in several African traditional stories: Qinaqis.
Qinaqis has been denied the access to worship freely in the temple of Jerusalem and is dealing with this rejection by the religious leaders in the text. Join us as we explore freedom through Qinaqis’s story and hear reflections from the larger UVC community that claim Black and Queer liberation. All are welcome!

In Acts 2, those gathered were celebrating a festival marking the first fruits of the harvest, and more importantly, when God gifted God’s people with the Torah law. This law binded God’s people together centered around loving God, living abundantly, and caring for the least of these. This morning, Pastor Emily asks ask how the Spirit invites us to open our heads & hearts to remove barriers, become fluent in other’s realities, and seek wholeness. Looking inward, we’ll deepen our knowledge of self through understanding our connection to others.

This morning we continue our series “The Inward Journey” with Paul’s letter to Philippi. Today’s scripture connects peace & rejoicing with a conviction that God’s peace does not rest on external circumstances. Pastor D’Angelo reflects that while the presence of God does not always deliver us from all anxiety, God’s presence does offer peace amid our circumstances. How is God present with you this day? Please join us- and bring a piece of paper!

A year ago we started quarantining and began a sermon series called “Now What?” to help us navigate an uncertain future. Today we’re facing similar questions.
This morning, we’ll turn once again to the Scriptures, when after Jesus’ resurrection, the Church found itself asking, “now what?” Student Pastor Lijia explores the early Church’s attempts to be faithful while recognizing the scars, wounds, and trauma’s of Christ’s death. Recognizing Jesus’ wounds is part of what makes the resurrection so radical, and triumphant.
