Willa/Tony is originally from Mexico City, and lived in Mexico until the age of 18. Tony was raised in a bicultural, bilingual household, as a Mexican-American. Tony grew up in a syncretic faith experience which brought together Catholicism, Native Indigenous practices, African/Caribbean/African Diaspora religious practices, as well as South Asian and East Asian practices and philosophies. “To not love myself is less of an option than it used to be” - @WillaVawisp

God has been called by thousands of names - from El Roi (the God Who Sees Me) to Mother Bear Who Protects Her Cubs- and everything in between. What we call God matters. It can change how we pray, how we experience God in our lives, and open us up to new parts of God’s very nature. Pastor Emily, alongside UVCers from our South Loop, Hyde Park-Woodlawn, and Edgewater sites, reflect on Jacob’s struggle with God. This struggle was just part of Jacob’s transformation however. Unsure of what is next, Jacob is ready to face whatever is ahead as his full self. As we wrap us this sermon series on the many names of God, we reflect on how God names all of us- “Beloved.” Please join!

Today, Pastor D’Angelo (they/them) focuses on God the Deliverer and Yahweh Rophe- the God Who Heals. Transitional times are hard, frustrating, and can cause hopelessness. But God’s healing in this passage is not about a physical illness, but of restoration and justice. Join as we reflect on this good news!
